Healthy eating during pregnancy is one of the best gifts you can give to your baby-to-be. Good nutrition will support his or her growth and development, maintain your health during and after the pregnancy and possibly benefit their health in later years. Now that you’re pregnant, your daily nutritional needs are greater but not exactly doubled. Focus on choosing foods high in nutrition quality rather than increasing your portion sizes. Your additional energy needs for the second and third trimesters can be supported by increasing your fruit intake from 2 to 4 serves a day. Continue to eat each day plenty of vegetables (5-6 servings), wholegrain breads and cereals (4-6 servings), moderate amounts of lean meat, chicken and fish (1.5 servings), low-fat dairy (2 servings), eat sweets sparingly and be strict with no happy hour rendezvous.
